Thoughts on the game?

m.pic5678 "A really good start to the game by us and then we got a goal, which was a really well worked goal. Then it was a very discipline, organised perfromance. Maybe with a little bit more quality at times we could have got ourselves a second or a third goal, especially on the counter."

Confidence from City

"I think going into the game today we had taken confidence from the City game because of the performance, but ultimately we got nothing out of it. Today there was a bit of similarity, we need to stop conceding goals because I think we have got players that can score. We kept a clean sheet, I don’t know when the last time West Ham kept a clean sheet.

"We have kept a clean sheet, we had a good plan and organisation to see how we could hurt Chelsea a little bit but make sure their quality and ability wouldn't overrun us really."

Stopping Hazard

"I said in the press conference on Friday that if I had somebody I would have thought about man marking him. When you see him that close at the moment his touches and movements are sublime. Some of the play, the old fashioned twin striker play, they would play with each other, him and Morata, some of their play was really good.

"We didn’t think that we had that player so we tried to fill the middle of the pitch as much as we could. Hope that the two players on the break could hurt them on the break."

Why Antonio up front?

"The two that we had are probably with the power and the pace. There will be other games where we will need Chicharito for his finishing ability and Andy Carroll for his aerial ability. m.pic5678

"There are different games that we need them for. At the moment the level of the teams we are playing we need the boys that can cause the opposition problems and on the counter attack."

Energy levels much higher, how?

"I think the confidence and sometimes just giving them the jobs can help their energy levels rise. I think our energy levels have risen massively. I don’t want our centre forwards thinking that 65 minutes is enough. Those two have been told well done, they were a handful all day, but I want them to play for 90 minutes. Marko felt his calf though, which is why we took him off early on."

The atmosphere and the fans

"I found that ever since I have come in, the fans have been fantastic. I think if you were at the game against Leicester and today you wouldn't walk away from here thinking there was no atmosphere at the stadium. I think you would come away saying ‘my goodness, I want to go back there again, it’s a great atmosphere’.

"There were nearly 60,000 people here today see us beat the champions. We played Leicester in my other home game. It was 1-1 and it was a really good game, the crowd were great, and I can only say that I have seen the fans be terrific. I think the two home games we have put in decent performances. We could have done better in the Everton game, the other games we have always had a chance."

"I think against the top teams it's very hard now. What happens when you have an extra defender is you get outnumbered in the middle of the pitch and you can’t get a press high enough up the pitch, because you can’t have two boys who are close enough.

"Whatever you do, you’re trying to patch up bits to stop the opposition dominating the game. I thought Chelsea were really good with the ball at times. They’re excellent at football, but I thought we filled the spaces and gaps and tried to limit them to as few chances as possible."

How big was that win for you?

"All managers need wins. That’s it. All managers need to win games very quickly. That’s the way it is. I think coming into the club that I’ve got a pretty difficult run of fixtures, and I think most people agree.

"It was always going to be hard to win the games, but today we did the job. We were really organised and the game plan we set up worked. We knew how it was going to be and we were really close at Manchester City as well. From that you might say, ‘Well, this might not be a surprise that West Ham can actually get something against Chelsea’."

Happiest moment for you?

"I’m always happy when I win. I always used to say to Bill Kenwright that the best feeling a manager gets is that Saturday night feeling if you get a win on a Saturday, how good it makes you feel. Walking into the dressing room there I praised the players, put my jacket on and then thought, ‘Oh no I’ve got Arsenal in midweek’.

"That is football management. I’m really pleased and I’ve got a big smile, but I know I’ve got to get back to work because of the level of the opposition coming up."

Choice of Adrian over Hart?

"Adrian played very well. I’ve got to say Joe’s been an incredible professional. I told him and he took it really well, and his interaction with Adrian is part of it, giving him encouragement and helping him. I have to praise Joe.

"I think I’ve got two good goalkeepers and the decision was based on the fact I thought that Adrian’s performance against Manchester City was really good."

Time to build momentum?

"I think it’s easy saying that. Arsenal have shown they’re a quality side as well. Maybe we’re in a little bit of a mode at the moment, I hope we can keep it going.

"I hope we can keep defending as well as we have. There were one or two chances in the first half where if we’d had a little bit more quality we could have got a second goal. We’ve got to look forward to the game now. We’ll go into it for a win, and everyone knows there’ll be a big crowd here on Wednesday."
